Christ Is Our Sabbath Rest
“And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath: Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the Sabbath.”
(Mark 2:27-28)
The Lord Jesus Christ is the believer’s Sabbath rest. We are not told to observe a day with special regulations to keep us or make us righteous before God. We are told by the Lord Himself to, “Come unto me and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)
The apostle Paul warned the believers in the church at Galatia about observing days, “Ye observe days, and months, and times, and years. I am afraid of you, lest I have bestowed upon you labour in vain.” (Galatians 4:10-11)
We look not unto a day for rest but rather unto the Lord of everyday, “This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.” (Psalm 118:24)
So then, we find engaging rest, enormous refreshing and all of salvation in a person, the Lord Jesus Christ Himself, “This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest.” (Isaiah 28:12)
He is the Lord of our Sabbath rest. Let us by almighty grace cease from our works and enter into that rest. “There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.” (Hebrews 4:9-10)
