Fatherly Advice To Those Who Would Marry
Philip Henry, who was, with Matthew Henry, a famous commentator on the Holy Bible, was approached by his daughter with the news that she wanted to marry a certain young man. As the young man was not known to him, he said to her:
“I don’t know where he has come from.” To which she replied: “But I know where he is going.”
To another of his children, this time a son, who told his father of his desire to marry, Philop Henry said:
“Please God, and please yourself, and then you will please me. I wish you much holiness and then you will have much happiness.”
