God Ended His Work

“Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.” (Genesis 2:1-2)

“The LORD that made heaven and earth,” as the Psalmist titles Him, has finished all His works from the the beginning. The work of creation was complete at the end of the sixth day. Hebrews 4:3-4 states, “For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world. For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works.” Modern astronomy tells us that it has discovered a new “planet” forming and that new stars are forming all over the universe. This is in direct contradiction to the scripture above. Either God has finished His works from the beginning, or He has not.

God resting on the seventh day from His work of creation is a clear picture of our sabbath, the Lord Jesus Christ. He has, from the beginning, finished all the work of salvation, for He is the lamb slain from the foundation of the world. So to agree with modern day astronomy is to deny that Christ, our Sabbath, has finished His works. It is to deny that He sat down on the right hand of God and rested from all His works. To deny that God’s work of creation is not complete is to deny the Sabbath, and denying the Sabbath, you deny the Lord of the Sabbath. Thus, we would have no resting place, and we would still be in our sins.

God’s creation is a beautiful physical illustration of His great salvation; therefore, the devil must pervert the true creation to fit a perverted work of salvation to it. “Oh, God did all he can; now you have to add to it by your decision, good works, and faith.” “Christ really didn’t redeem anyone—he just made it possible for everyone to be redeemed.” Am I making sense? Creation matters. To pervert it in any way perverts the finished redemptive work of Jesus Christ. We must put away all the foolish notions science falsely so-called and return to the divine authority of Holy Scripture. If anything is contrary to scripture, without hesitation, we must toss it to the swine.
