Why Are Believers Called the Israel of God?
For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature.
And as many as walk according to this rule, peace be on them, and mercy, and upon the Israel of God.
Talking about the Lord Jesus Christ, Acts 5:31 says:
“Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and Forgiveness of sins.”
The Israel there does not, of course, refer to the political nation of Israel comprising of blood descendants of Abraham, or the current people who live in Israel who are clearly not the blood descendants of the Hebrews.
But when we become saved, we belong to the spiritual Israel of God that consists of all those who have trusted in the Lord Jesus Christ.
WE are the spiritual seed of Abraham as Romans 9:6-8 shows:
For they are not all Israel, which are of Israel: Neither, because they are the seed of Abraham, are they all children: but, Isaac shall thy seek be called, That is, Thy They which are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God: but the children of the promise are counted for the seed.
