A Short Study of Philippians 4:5
“Let your moderation be known unto all men.”
(Philippians 4:5)
The word “moderation”, as Paul uses it in this verse, means “gentleness”. Because the Lord Jesus Christ, our God and Saviour, is always “at hand”, since our God is always by our side, we who believe have every reason to be gentle, peaceful, and calm at all times. May God give us a constant awareness of His presence, as we make our pilgrimage through this world. He has promised, “I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.” Let us believe the promise. Is the LORD at hand, to provide for us, protect us, guide us, and comfort us? Then let us live before Him with such gentleness, with such peace, calm, and moderation of heart that all men may know the God we worship is a God whose wisdom and grace we confidently trust. In essence, Paul is saying, Let us live before men as men who live by faith in a sovereign God.
