A Short Study of Psalm 14:2-3

“The Lord looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, and seek God. They are all gone aside, they are all together become filthy: there is none that doeth good, no, not one.”
(Psalm 14:2-3)

Deep down, there is a little spark of goodness in everyone. If people’s educational and economic environments were more opportunistic, people would be better.

Right?

Wrong!

The expert testimony of God says that all (and include yourself here) are at our core sinful, corrupt and rebellious against God.

Our hearts, minds, and wills are all depraved by sin. It’s not just the bad things that we’ve done that are sinful, but also the things we would do given the right circumstances. How many times are people swayed from evil behavior, not out of love for God, but from a law or police car or potential consequences from parents or other authority.

The depths of depravity highlight how incredible are the depths of God’s grace and love.

God knows what we are and still loves us!

He sent His Son to die for sinners. It is grace that not only makes us legally righteous in the courtroom of Heaven, but it is also grace that gives us a new nature that loves God, mourns over sin, and leads us in righteous paths.

Thank God today for saving a sinner like yourself. And ask Him for grace to daily die to your old nature and put on the new nature created within by the Holy Spirit.
