The Mighty Power of God
“And they were all amazed at the mighty power of God.”
That God is omnipotent, or all-powerful, is a fact of which surely, all believers are aware. In fact, we would be highly offended if someone were to suggest the contrary, and rightly we should be. On this day recorded by Luke, the crowd was more than just aware of the fact of God’s power, they were amazed at it. They were “blown away” as they saw Jesus heal a boy who was possessed with an unclean spirit.
It ought to be our desire in our lives not to just have a head-knowledge of God’s power. Of course, we must have that.
But, oh, that we would experience the power of God in our day!
The power of God is manifested in many ways.
It is seen in hard, sin-filled hearts being taken away and new, humble, God-loving hearts given.
It is seen in enemies of Christ becoming His friends.
It is seen in sustaining believers as they endure afflictions and difficulties.
It is seen in God’s word being preached in great power and believed and followed.
It is seen in God’s providential deliverances of His people.
It is seen in you and I, dying to ourselves daily, becoming servants rather than self-focused, in walking humbly with God rather than having a proud heart.
It is seen in God’s people loving one another.
It is seen in God’s people growing and becoming more and more like Jesus Christ.
May it be said of us, “And they were all amazed at the mighty power of God!”
