A Short Study of Luke 8:38-39
“Now the man out of whom the devils were departed besought Him that he might be with Him: but Jesus sent him away, saying, Return to thine own house, and show how great things God hath done unto thee. And he went his way and published throughout the whole city how great things Jesus had done unto him.”
(Luke 8:38-39)
The initial request of this man whom we call “The Wild Gadarene” is quite touching. He wanted to stay right in the company of Christ.
Is it any wonder, really?
After all, Jesus had delivered this man from the tormenting bondage of sin and demons. Surely, Jesus was pleased with his heart-felt request, but still He assigned the saved man another task.
Ought not you and I, who have been delivered from the slavish powers of darkness, be engaged in the same task?
This Gadarene probably was not an expert in Theology at this stage of his spiritual development. But there was one thing that he knew very well: what Jesus had done for him. In fact, this man didn’t just tell his own house, but he also blazed the message throughout the whole city!
Has Jesus done anything for you?
If so, have you told anyone about it?
May the Lord give us grace and opportunity to show others what great things God has done to us.
