A Short Study of Luke 1:53
“He hath filled the hungry with good things, and the rich He hath sent away empty.”
(Luke 1:53)
These were the words of Mary in praising her God at the privilege He gave her of bearing Jesus Christ. Hunger is powerful. Anyone who has missed two or three meals in a row can understand this. The body is crying out for food. The mind strays away to various things that would be desirable to eat.
Is there a spiritual hunger in your soul?
Do you long to be in the presence of Christ or are you content to go along without a close fellowship with Him?
Does your soul cry out to you that it needs to be nourished with God’s word, or is it content to feed on something else?
It is a blessing of God to have spiritual hunger. If we aren’t very hungry for God, we should ask Him to give us that desire for Him.
Does God simply create a hunger within us only to leave us hungry?
No, His design is opposite.
He stirs up spiritual hunger within us for the purpose of satisfying it!
God alone satisfies the spiritual cravings that we experience. After all, Jesus said, “Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be filled” (Matthew 5:6).
Those who have God-given spiritual hunger will experience fillings here and now, but will experience a full and complete filling hereafter!
