1 Corinthians 6:9-11 and Remarriage

Dearly beloved,

I would like to add one more piece of evidence against excuses that men use wrongly in order to manipulate God’s Word in order to teach and endorse remarriage.

This misunderstood scripture is found in 1 Corinthians 1:6-11. People misunderstand the words in this verse where we read “such were some of you”.

What is the real meaning of these words “such were some of you”.?

Well, let’s go back to 1 Corinthians 6:9-10.

1 Corinthians 6:9
Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind,

1 Corinthians 6:10
Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.

Paul warned these people in the Corinthians church who claimed to be born again that if they continued in this pattern of habitual sin that they said they had repented of they would not inherit the kingdom of God.

I believe that there were some in the church of Corinth who needed this warning from Paul.

It would seem that Paul doubted the confession of some of these people.
Apparently not all of these converts had ceased from their wicked habitual lifestyles that they said they had repented of. That is why I believe that Paul gave this warning.

There were some in the church or Corinth that had been born again and had ceased stopped their pattern of sinning. Some had by the Holy Spirit were made new creatures in Christ. They proved that the Holy Spirit had made them new creatures and this is why Paul writes the words “such were some of you”..
They proved that they were washed, sanctified, and justified in the Lord Jesus Christ, and by the Holy Spirit of God.

Some seem to believe that a person can be forgiven from adultery and then still continue to live in that state of adultery and go to bed with another man’s wife every night. But the Word of God clearly teaches that the forgiven, washed, sactified saint is to forsake their sin and separate from it.

Proverbs 28:13
He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.

Jeremiah 7:9
Will ye steal, murder, and commit adultery, and swear falsely, and burn incense unto Baal, and walk after other gods whom ye know not;
Jeremiah 7:10
And come and stand before me in this house, which is called by my name, and say, We are delivered to do all these abominations?

Paul warned them that they must stop. Some weak preachers say that these types of christians are “carnal christians” that live or continue to live in the state of the sin of continual, unrepentant adultery.

I have sad news for such people. There is no such animal as a carnal christian. These so-called carnal christians were never genuine christians from the very start.
