A Study of Psalm 130:3-8
The psalmist asked, “If thou, LORD, shouldest mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall stand?” (Psalm 130:3).
The answer is – NO SINFUL HUMAN BEING.
One of Job’s friends asked, “How then can man be justified with God? or how can he be clean that is born of a woman?” (Job 25:4).
Our only hope of salvation is to find forgiveness. The psalmist went on to say, “But there is forgiveness with thee, that thou mayest be feared” (Psalm 130:4).
How can there be forgiveness in light of God’s holiness and justice?
The answer can only be found in the mercy of God found in redemption by His grace through Christ Jesus the Lord – “Let Israel hope in the LORD: for with the LORD there is mercy, and with Him is plenteous redemption. And He shall redeem Israel [God’s elect] from all his iniquities” (Psalm 130:7-8).
Sinner, mark it well, there is no forgiveness with God apart from Christ and Him crucified, but IN CHRIST there is forgiveness with God.
