A Short Study of Romans 8:33
“Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God’s elect? It is God that justifieth.” (Romans 8:33)
To be justified is to be declared righteous, not guilty, before God based on the finished work of Christ on the cross (His shed blood and imputed righteousness).
This was God’s purpose in eternity as we see that the Gospel is the preaching of the terms of the everlasting covenant of grace. God’s purpose has never changed and never will. What a blessing for sinners to be justified BEFORE GOD who is holy and who must punish sin!
What an amazing truth of God’s grace – IT IS GOD THAT JUSTIFIES!
Sinful, unbelieving man tries to justify himself but fails miserably.
Because God looks on the heart and sees the depths of our sin. The things of which we naturally are so proud and value (our works and efforts) are an abomination to God (Luke 16:15). God justifies the ungodly based upon that which HE highly esteems – the blood and righteousness of His dear Son, the Lord Jesus Christ”.
